Exploration question

Could early childhood development become a powerful entry point for mobilizing sanitation and housing improvements in low-income communities?

Fernando is a social entrepreneur working at the intersection of housing, sanitation, and human development in Brazil. He is a partner at Vivenda, an organization that improves housing conditions for low-income families and works to transform how home improvements are financed and delivered at scale.

Over the past decade, Fernando has helped develop solutions that connect businesses, civil society, and government to address housing inequality. His work has also contributed to the design of public policies focused on home improvements for low-income families in Brazil.

More recently, he has been working to mobilize partners to create the 1 Million Bathrooms Coalition, an initiative aimed at expanding access to safe sanitation and addressing one of the country’s most basic yet persistent infrastructure gaps.

Fernando lives in São Paulo and is the proud father of three daughters. Building a home where they could grow, play, and thrive has deepened his belief that the quality of the home environment plays a crucial role in children’s development.
