Exploration question

How is oral tradition in myths, songs and stories, protecting the ability of a community to connect and to preserve the access to the secondary world from children to elders in modern day?

Lau is a musician, writer, and artist from Catalonia, Spain, now based in New York City. Known for her self-taught approach to singing, contrapuntal guitar, and piano, she has been described by the Recording Academy as “a musical polymath.” A passionate advocate for oral tradition, she learns and teaches music entirely by ear and has collaborated with artists including Jacob Collier, Chris Thile, and Jorge Drexler.

Lau was the first Catalan artist to perform on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series and has taught creativity masterclasses at Ivy League universities and conservatories worldwide. She has performed at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, SummerStage NYC, and Carnegie Hall, and was featured at the TED Conference in Vancouver in 2026.

Her debut LP, A Dos (2024), features collaborations with internationally acclaimed musicians, and her upcoming project is a folk opera exploring and defending the human capacity for art.
