About the Foundation
The Van Leer Foundation is an independent Dutch organisation working globally to contribute to inclusive societies where all children and communities can flourish. We bring together people with different perspectives and support them to achieve large-scale impact. Our support consists of a unique combination of funding, networking, training, technical support and knowledge.
Our philanthropic activities were originally funded by dividends from the Royal Van Leer Packaging Industry. In 1996, the board decided to IPO the company, the final process of which constituted an endowment that today funds our philanthropic activities. The value of the endowment is around EUR 800 million. Each year we make 3.6% (the average value of the endowment over the past three years) available for charitable spending. In 2024, this amounts to an annual budget of EUR 28 million.
