Listening to families builds better homes with lifelong impact
The Family Voices toolkit offers a set of practical tools designed to help investors, developers and city leaders effectively involve parents and caregivers with children under 5 in the planning, design and management of family housing. By listening to the perspectives of young families, professionals involved in urban development projects can create thriving homes and neighbourhoods for their youngest residents and caregivers.
The Toolkit is free to download and includes six guides with additional resources for each session:
- Overview
- Session 1: Living Together
- Session 2: Looking at Proposals
- Session 3: Looking at the Home
- Session 4: The Local Neighbourhood
- Session 5: Visiting the Neighbourhood

Visit the website to discover more on why the toolkit is such an important tool; how you can gather, track and measure impact; and all the guidance you might need to start engaging with parents and caregivers of young children.
The Family Voices toolkit was developed by ZCD Architects, funded and led by the Van Leer Foundation as part of our mission-related investment work, and in collaboration with key partners: Jonathan Rose Companies, Patrizia, The Earls Court Development Company, Bridges, HUB, Fabrix, Ardstone.
