The state of early childhood
The Taub Center in Israel produced its annual State of the Nation report for 2023, with a section dedicated to early childhood. The report includes research findings from four distinct studies:
- Early Childhood Education and Care in Israel: An Overview ~ focuses on the unique challenges facing policymakers in light of improving the quality of early childhood education and care frameworks.
- Free Early Childhood Education: Challenges and Policy Alternatives ~ outlines the main challenges of universal free early education as shortages in early educational care staff, as well as buildings that meet regulatory code.
- The Relationship Between the Death of a Parent or Sibling in Early Childhood and Educational Achievement ~ demonstrates the need to widen assistance offered in cases of civilian bereavement and to include bereaved siblings, as the study found no statistically significant difference between the loss of a parent and the loss of a sibling.
- Young Children Below the Poverty Line ~ seeks to identify households with young children that are at the highest risk of living below the poverty line to inform policy frameworks and interventions.
The findings provide insight into different aspects of early childhood in Israel.
These studies were conducted as part of the Taub Center Initiative on Early Childhood Development and Inequality, supported by the Beracha Foundation, the Van Leer Foundation, and Yad Hanadiv.
