Early Childhood in Focus: Primary Education

This second edition in the series focuses on transitions in the lives of young children, particularly around early childhood education and care.

In this second edition, the global challenges of education for all (especially for the youngest children) are brought into focus. It looks at the implications of growth in early childhood education and care, including a reappraisal of traditional concepts of school readiness, and a review of strategies required to ensure continuity in children’s experiences of successful transitions.

The provision of services for young children is marked by inequalities in access and quality.

This publication is part of a series that brings different issues important for early childhood into focus, developed together with the Child and Youth Studies Group at The Open University.
