The recent influx of refugees and asylum seekers in North America and European countries is stretching their capacity both to receive newcomers and to help them in long-term integration. Early childhood education and care (ECEC) programmes can help achieve both objectives, by supporting the healthy development of children who have experienced trauma.
Animated by StoryScope and Minds Eye Creative, the video captures findings from the report, Responding to the ECEC Needs of Children of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Europe and North America, which was produced by the Migration Policy Institute and National Center on Immigration Policy with the support of the Transatlantic Forum on the Early Years, to which the Bernard van Leer Foundation contributes. The report highlights common challenges and promising practices of services for children of refugees and asylum seekers in nine countries: Belgium, Canada, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Türkiye, and the United States.
