Foundation partner Humara Bachpan has won the 2016 Hero Award for Best Youth Act. The Hero Awards are an initiative of the “One Billion Acts of Peace” campaign, supported by 13 Nobel Peace Prize winners. Along with winners in four other categories, Humara Bachpan – which works with children living in urban poverty in India to campaign for better living conditions – will be honoured at a ceremony on June 13th in Monte Carlo.
About the act
“Humara Bachpan” is a campaign on safe and healthy environment for young children growing up in urban poverty. The campaign aims at inclusion of child friendly components in the national and state urban development policies.
Humara Bachpan campaign traces its origin to Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India way back in November 2012. What started as an experiment in a small city has gradually emerged as a national movement spreading over 23 cities in 17 states of India reaching out directly to 35,500 children.
