Children of the World: Meet Talison in Brazil

Meet four-year-old Talison and be moved by the life of an Afro-Brazilian family of dancers.

Meet four-year-old Talison. He wants to grow up to be either a dancer, like both his parents, or a footballer. His footballing hero is Rivaldo, who is also from the city of Recife. Talison’s family are proud of their African heritage, and follow their traditional culture.

My family is full of artists. My dad’s name is Delefon, and he’s a dancer. Delefon is his stage name, because when he was born, he was given the name Luziel. My mom’s name is Tamaris, and she’s a dancer too. In Recife, a lot of people –for artistic or spiritual reasons– choose a name they want to be called by.
