In 2016, the government of Tel Aviv began to respond to mounting pressure from parents of young children to tackle a crisis of affordable childcare in the city. By 2019, early childhood development had become a priority across the city government.
Tel Aviv’s mayor tasked a Bloomberg Philanthropies innovation team—a research and advisory unit attached to his office—to develop options for alleviating the city’s high cost of living.
Based on interviews conducted in May 2019, this case study explores why and how young children rose up the municipal agenda.
We commissioned this case study with Princeton University as part of a series that explores Urban95 implementation from a municipal leadership perspective.
