This policy brief draws on the research carried out on supporting urban childhoods in Istanbul (Türkiye), providing an overview of the status of child-friendly policymaking for children in the city.
The main focus of the development plan is to diversify and build on the regions cultural and economic strengths. If this can be linked to inclusive and accessible urbanisation, with children at the centre of this discourse, the state of child-friendly policymaking for Istanbul would be that much further along.
Based on a research initiative conducted in partnership with the University of Edinburgh and the Eindhoven University of Technology, this publication is part of a collection on supporting urban childhoods.
This collection builds on research to enhance our spatial understanding of how caregivers of young children use public space.
